GUIDED BIOFILM THERAPY

GBT is a GAME CHANGER for dental cleanings and better oral health.

At CRFDC & AFD, Dr. Abraham and his team are always looking for better ways to care for their patients. That includes offering treatments that are not only more effective but also more comfortable and patient-friendly. One of the most exciting additions to their hygiene appointments is Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) using EMS Airflow technology.

This advanced cleaning method is changing the way dental professionals care for oral health. It’s gentle, science-backed, and incredibly effective-and once patients experience it, they often say they’d never go back to a traditional cleaning.

WHAT IS GUIDED BIOFILM THERAPY?

Guided Biofilm Therapy is a modern approach to dental cleanings that focuses on removing biofilm, the root cause of many dental issues like cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease.

Unlike traditional dental cleanings that rely on scraping with metal tools, GBT uses a combination of air, water, and fine powder to gently yet thoroughly remove biofilm without causing discomfort.

GBT works by first highlighting the biofilm with a special gel, making it visible so that every area is treated. Dental professionals then use an airflow device to spray a controlled stream of water and fine powder to remove the biofilm, leaving the teeth clean and smooth. This technique ensures a more precise cleaning, addressing areas that traditional methods might miss.

WHY BIOFILM REMOVAL MATTERS?

You’re probably familiar with that filmy feeling of unbrushed teeth, that’s biofilm. Biofilm is the soft, sticky film that forms on your teeth every day. It contains bacteria that can cause cavities and gum disease- but that's not all.

Biofilm doesn’t just stay in the mouth. Left undisturbed, it can cause chronic inflammation and infection that may spread throughout the body. Research has linked poor oral hygiene and untreated gum disease to systemic health conditions like stroke, heart disease, Alzheimer's, Diabetes, and more.

By removing biofilm more effectively, GBT helps support overall wellness, not just a healthy smile. It’s a preventive approach to care that focuses on long-term results and whole-body health.

A BETTER PATIENT EXPERIENCE

For many people, the idea of a dental cleaning can be daunting, especially if they have dental anxiety or sensitive gums. One of the biggest advantages of Guided Biofilm Therapy is its gentle and comfortable approach. Traditional cleanings often involve scraping and pressure, which can cause discomfort, particularly for patients with gum sensitivity or exposed tooth roots.

GBT, on the other hand, uses a soft, air-powered spray to remove biofilm and plaque. This process is much less invasive, making the cleaning more comfortable for patients.  For those with dental anxiety, this can make all the difference in their comfort level and willingness to maintain regular cleanings.
